Nigeria’s President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Wednesday wrote to the Senate for the confirmation of Dr. Ruby Onwudiwe as a member of the Board of Directors of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

The President in a letter addressed to the President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, cited Section 10 (1) of the Central Bank of Nigeria Establishment Act 2007 as the basis for his request.

Tinubu noted that Onwudiwe’s nomination is a replacement for Mr. Urum Kalu Eke, who turned down the position citing other conflicting assignments he is currently engaged with.

“I am pleased to present for confirmation by the Senate, the appointment of Dr Ruby Onwudiwe as a member of the CBN board of directors.

“The Senate is invited to kindly note that Onwudiwe is a replacement for Mr Kalu Eke, due to the unavailability of Eke for the position.

“It is my hope, therefore, that the senate will consider and confirm in its usual expeditious manner, the appointment of Onwudiwe.

“Please accept the assurances of my highest regards,” Tinubu wrote.

Onwudiwe is believed to have firmly established herself in the banking and technology sectors of our national economy and might be an asset to the CBN

According to his profile in his LinkedIn page, the nominee has held various positions, including Executive Director of Operations at COURE Technologies, Executive Director of Technology Operations at 9 Payment Service Bank (9PSB), Head of Private Banking at Stanbic IBTC, and Head of Corporate and Investment Banking Technology, Africa Core Banking at Standard Bank Group.
