Following the incident that occurred on Sunday in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital, where a warehouse belonging to the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) was looted by some residents, the agency has categorically denied the claim.

In a statement released on its official X handle, the agency clarified that the warehouse does not belong to it as widely reported.

While sympathizing with the owners of the facility, the agency said that the Director-General of NEMA, Mustapha Habib Ahmed, has instructed Zonal Directors and Heads of Operations to enhance security measures at the agency’s offices and warehouses across the country to prevent any potential security breaches.

According to the statement, “The attention of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has been drawn to media reports on Sunday alleging that the Agency’s warehouse was looted by some hoodlums in Abuja.

“This is to clarify that the looted warehouse does not belong to NEMA. However, the Agency sympathizes with owners of the looted facility.

“To forestall any security breach at NEMA facilities, the Director General Mustapha Habib Ahmed has directed Zonal Directors and Heads of Operations to strengthen security in and around the Agency’s offices and warehouses nationwide.”

It would be recalled that in the early hours of Sunday, March 3, 2024, some residents in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) invaded a warehouse located in Karimo, Phase 3 Region in the city and carted away foodstuff.

Although normalcy has returned to the area following the intervention of security operatives.
