The Senate has confirmed the sack of the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission Executive (FCCPC)Vice-Chair, Babatunde Irukera.

The Senate hit the gravel on the sack following President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s request.

Tinubu in a letter read at the plenary on Wednesday by the Senate President, GodsWill Akpabio, said that he was demanding the approval of the sack of Irukere based on inefficiency.

The president said the approval of the Senate is needed in line with the FCCPC Act.

The New Diplomat reports that Tinubu on January 8, had relieved Irukera of his duties as FCCPC boss.

In a press statement conveying the sack, the President said the action was “in conformity with plans to restructure and reposition critical agencies of the Federal Government towards protecting the rights of Nigerian consumers and providing a strong basis for enhanced contributions to the nation’s economy by key growth-enabling institutions”.
