Indications emerging from the Zamfara state House of Assembly suggests that things may be falling apart as seven out of the twenty four members, at a sitting on Monday morning suspended sixteen members.

The suspension came in the wake of an earlier impeachment of the speaker of the Assembly, Hon Bilyaminu Moriki, and appointment of Hon Bashar Gummi, as the pro-tempo speaker, by 18 lawmakers, last Thursday.

The lawmakers had unanimously agreed to impeach the speaker during an emergency meeting, citing security challenges as the reason for the action. According to them, the speaker was suspended due to security challenges affecting the state without any attempt by the House to stop the menace by the House.

However, in a dramatic move, the house under the leadership of Moriki suspended 16 members. In the sitting which was attended by only seven lawmakers, the Moriki accused the members for breaking into the offices of the Clerk of the House and Sergeant at arm among other things destroyed at the assembly complex.

The six lawmakers in their separate presentations at Monday’s sitting also accused some top politicians outside the state for sponsoring the lawmakers to disrupt the Government of Governor Dauda Lawal.

They call on the constituents of the affected lawmakers and all residents to disregard the news making the round that the speaker has been suspended.
