The popular green and white colours of the Super Eagles of Nigeria might have regained its lost glory, as Luton Town forward, Elijah Adebayo expressed his desire to play for the national team.
Though several players of Nigerian descent have turned down the opportunity to play for the national team, 26-year-old Adebayo who was born in Brent, England, openly revealed he would grab the opportunity to wear the popular green and white jersey.
The striker made this known during an interview session with The Times. He said representing Nigeria at the national level would make his mother happy and proud of him.
“I would like to play for Nigeria,” Adebayo told The Times.
“It would make my mum happy, make her proud. That’s something we’ve spoken about.
“Playing for England? It would be a case of whichever comes first. My mum would be proud if I played for Nigeria or England, but Nigeria especially.”
The New Diplomat reports that Adebayo has been on hot form for the newly promoted side, Luton Town, scoring 9 goals in his 23 domestic league appearances—including an hat-trick against Brighton which was crucial in placing them above the relegation zone, as of now.
