While millions of Nigerians on Wednesday night were in a jubilant mood following the Super Eagles’ qualification for the final of the 34th edition of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), the family of Dr. Cairo Ojougbo, a former member of the House of Representatives, was thrown into mourning due to the sudden death of the chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Delta State.

According to reports, the late Ojougbo, who represented the Ika federal constituency, slumped and died while watching the semi-final match between Nigeria and South Africa.

“As soon as a penalty kick was awarded against Nigeria during the AFCON match with South Africa on Wednesday’s semi-final clash in Bouake, Ivory coast, he slumped,” an outlet quoting a source.

It would be recalled that the late Ojougbo, a former Director of Projects in the immediate past interim board of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), was expelled from the APC in the state over alleged anti-party activities during the February 25 presidential election and the March 18 governorship election in Nigeria.

However, two months after his expulsion, the ruling party, through its national legal adviser, Ahmad El-Marzuq, reversed the decision.
