Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State said today that he will personally ask President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for federal assistance to address severe hunger and economic hardship gripping the state.
“I will personally go and ask President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to intervene and check the prevailing hunger situation in Kano State, so as to save our people from starvation” the governor told business leaders and stakeholders at the Kano state government house.
The gathering, according to his address was in respect to the menace of High inflation, and the resulting suffering in the state.
While he acknowledged that the ugly situation is shared by other parts of the country, he vowed to “make a case for Kano State, being our constituency”
Yusuf urged businesses in Kano to release food stocks and shun hoarding of foodstuff in warehouses “Please bring your goods to market so people can buy them” he pleaded.
The governor said with Ramadan starting soon, decisive action is needed to ease hardship as the fasting period approaches.
In the past, federal food aid has been dispatched to alleviate malnutrition in Kano. But Governor Yusuf insisted only President Tinubu’s direct intervention can address the current widespread hardship.
