By Agency Report

The Supreme Court has affirmed the election of Ahmad Aliyu in the March 18, governorship election in Sokoto state, dismissing the appeal filed the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its governorship candidate, Saidu Umar.

The five man panel held that the appeal lacked merit as the appellants failed to prove that the election was marred by irregularities and conducted in substantial noncompliance with provisions of the Electoral Act 2022.

The apex court also held that the appellants failed to prove the issue of certificate forgery and that Aliyu and his deputy, Idris Gobir, were ineligible to contest the governorship election. (AIT)
