There appears to be chaos in Jos, the capital of Plateau State, on Tuesday police officers used tear gas against 16 members of the Plateau Assembly from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who whose elections were nullified by the Court of Appeal.

The incident occurred at the Rayfield Old Government House in Jos when the legislators and their supporters were preparing to resume plenary sessions.

According to reports, the Government House saw a surge of police and security personnel, effectively preventing the dismissed lawmakers from accessing the Chambers of the House of Assembly.

However, the lawmakers vowed to remain within the premises.

It would be recalled that in December 2023, the 16 lawmakers, who were elected had their elevtions quashed by the Court of Appeal over what the court called illegal nomination for the 2023 elections by their political party – the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

However, in another judgment delivered by the Supreme Court on the same matter, the court emphasized that the case presented before the Court of Appeal was entirely fraudulent.

According to the apex court, the Court of Appeal does not have the authority to handle the entire issue, decalring that t one can not establish something on a foundation of nothing as the Appeal Court did!
