Betta Edu Arrives EFCC Headquarters For Questioning Over Alleged N585 Fraud

Dr. Betta Edu, the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, has reportedly arrived at the headquarters of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to undergo questioning over a N585 million fraud she was allegedly involved in.

TheNewDiplomat had earlier reported that Edu was suspended on Monday, January 8, by President Bola Tinubu, following allegations that she transferred the said fund into a personal account belonging to a project consultant.

The sum of N585 million was originally intended to be shared among vulnerable Nigerians in Akwa Ibom, Lagos, Cross River, and Ogun states.

The ongoing investigation by the EFCC was in accordance with the directives given by President Bola Tinubu after the minister’s suspension on Monday.

Edu becomes the inaugural minister to face suspension from office since the swearing-in of the members of the Federal Executive Council (FEC) in August of the previous year.
