President Bola Tinubu has conveyed his grief regarding the demise of former Anambra State Governor, Chief Chukwuemeka Ezeife, CON. He has characterized his passing as a “heart-wrenching setback” for the nation.

Chief Ezeife, popularly referred to as Okwadike of Igbo-Ukwu, was the first democratically elected governor of Anambra State from 1992 to 1993.

Meanwhile, in a press release issued on Friday, President Tinubu expressed his heartfelt sympathies to the Ezeife family, the people, and the government of Anambra State.

According to the Presidential Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Chief Ajuri Ngelale, the President emphasized Chief Ezeife’s significant role in shaping public discourse and governance in Nigeria, as well as his contribution in establishing the groundwork for the progress of Anambra State.

The President also recognized the late governor’s unwavering dedication to public service and his commitment to the development of his homeland.

“While praying for the repose of the soul of the dearly departed, the President encourages his loved ones to take solace in his indelible legacy,” the statement quoted by Politics Nigeria.

TheNewDiplomat earlier reported that the former Governor of Anambra State died on Thursday, December 14, at a government hospital in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital.

“On behalf of the Ezeife Dynasty of Igbo-Ukwu, I wish to announce the promotion to glory of our most distinguished son, ‘Okwadike’, Dr Chukwuemeka Ezeife, CON, a former Federal Permanent Secretary, a former governor of Anambra State, a former Political Adviser to President Olusegun Obasanjo and former Presidential aspirant.

“This sad event took place yesterday at 6 pm at the Federal Medical Centre, Abuja. More details about the deceased and the arrangements for his state burial will be announced later.”

“May his soul rest in peace, Amen,” a statement issued by his family and signed by Chief Rob Ezeife said.
