The Ondo State House of Assembly has been officially notified by Governor Rotimi Akeredolu regarding the transfer of authority to his deputy, Hon. Lucky Aiyedatiwa.

The legislative body, consequently, announced Aiyedatiwa as the deputy governor until Akeredolu’s return, as he had embarked on yet another medical leave.

This was disclosed on Wednesday by the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Olamide Oladiji.

Hon. Oladiji emphasized that the governor’s choice was in accordance with Section 190 of the Nigerian Constitution.

“Following the Doctor’s advice on the need for medical follow-up after recuperating, Ondo State Governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Odunayo Akeredolu, SAN, CON has forwarded the letter on medical leave to the State House of Assembly,” Oladiji said.

Meanwhile, the Deputy Governor Aiyedatiwa has been designated as the Acting Governor, as stated in the letter, until Akeredolu returns. The specific length of the governor’s absence is still uncertain.

Oladiji conveyed appreciation for Akeredolu’s recent recuperation and expressed hope that the governor will resume as soon as possible.

TheNewDiplomat had earlier reported that Akeredolu would embark on another medical vacation from Wednesday, December 13 in continuation of his treatment as conveyed in a statement issued by Richard Olatunde, the Chief Press Secretary, in Akure.

“A formal letter regarding the medical leave and a notice formally transferring power in line with the Nigerian Constitution will be transmitted to the House of Assembly.

“In the absence of Governor Akeredolu, the Deputy Governor, Hon. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, will assume the responsibilities of the Governor in acting capacity.

“Governor Akeredolu expresses his gratitude for the unwavering support and affection of the people of Ondo State.

“He assures them that his administration remains committed to the path of progress and prosperity for the people.

“As a Senior Advocate of Nigeria and a widely respected Nigerian, Governor Akeredolu has consistently delegated power to his deputy during his annual vacations,” according to Olatunde.
