At its 104th meeting, Wednesday, the National Judicial Council (NJC) assessed the list of candidates presented by its interview committee and after deliberations endorsed the names of the justices as successful applicants for the positions of heads of courts and other judicial officers for federal and state courts in Nigeria.

It would be recalled that a few weeks ago, the number of justices at the Supreme Court was reduced from 11 to 10 after the exit of Justice Musa Dattijo Muhammad who retired on October 27.

However, it is believed that the addition of the 11 justices, pending their approval, would enhance and facilitate judgements brought to it.

The recommended judges will be sworn in after their endorsements by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and confirmation by the Senate.

Also, the recommended judges for the states will assume duties upon the approval of their appointments by the state governors and their subsequent confirmation by their respective State Houses of Assembly.
