Prince Nduka Obaigbena, chairman of the ThisDay/Arise Media Group, will be presented with the 2023 Lifetime Achievement Award at the 32nd Diamond Awards for Media Excellence (DAME), on Sunday, December 10, 2023, in Lagos.

Mr Obaigbena is being recognised as worthy of the award on account of his steadfast promotion of a free, vigorous, and venturesome media.

In addition, he is being honoured for his tenacious protection of freedom of speech of the press, and his extraordinary intelligence, these were stated in the letter of notification signed by DAME Trustee, Mr. Lanre Idowu.

“As an entrepreneur, you have provided jobs for numerous people in the media industry. As a professional, you have trained many leaders in the media,” the letter stated.

It would be recalled that Obaigbena was bestowed with both the National Honour of Commander of the Order of the Niger (CON) in October 2022 and the highest journalistic honour of Fellowship of the Nigerian Guild of Editors (FNGE).

Also, Messrs Emeka Izeze and Mike Awoyinfa, both former managing directors and editor-in-chief of the Guardian Newspapers Ltd and Sun Publishing Ltd respectively, will be honored with DAME honorary fellowships for their consistent and positive involvement in the media.

They achieved the prestigious fellowship status of the Guild of Editors having previously worked as line editors, title editors, and columnists.

The initiative established in 1991 is to promote professionalism in the media.

This year, 52 nominations were chosen across different categories.
