This is Osubi Airport near Warri in Delta State. I just couldn’t believe that an airport of this quality exists in Nigeria.

It’s not so big but absolutely amazing in quality standards, with all facilities in top grade. The runway is far better than those of other airports in Nigeria, including Abuja and Lagos all combined. You could just put a mat on it and sleep off! The car park is so well laid, clean and orderly.

Out of curiosity, I made enquiries. I was told that the airport was built by Shell Petroleum a long time ago to support its operations in the Niger Delta area. It has now been handed over to the government.

The environment is super, the toilets so clean and well maintained, the air conditioners all functioning and the building itself solid and compact.

Why can’t government replicate this in all our airports? This experience has only served to reinforce the view that the real issue with our National development is leadership.

Back to Lagos airport, as if in another country.

May Nigeria succeed.
