Twenty-four out of 32 members of the Rivers House of Assembly in an early morning sitting on Monday signed a motion to impeach Governor Siminalayi Fubara.

Also, they suspended the Leader of the House, Edison Ehie, who is believed to be on the side of the governor after serving an impeachment notice on Fubara.

The decision was taken by the members during an emergency meeting between 7:00am and 9:00am today (Monday).

Journalists and cameras were prevented from the sitting as all the 24 lawmakers who signed the impeachment notice were present, according to The Nation.

In a late move, the governor and Ehie from Ahoada East arrived at the Assembly Complex that was after the lawmakers had executed their plans.

It could be recalled that on Sunday night, some arsonists set ablaze the chamber of the House of Assembly.

The impeachment notice on Governor Fubara might be connected to the alleged rift between him and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

Earlier on, the governor in a video while addressing youths at the government house alleged that the police tried to shoot him.

Also, the police fired teargas and water cannons at the governor who was in the midst of the crowd as they marched to the Assembly complex.
