download (20)ABUJA – An elder statesman and former Nigeria’s permanent representative at the United Nations, UN, Alhaji Maitama Sule has asked Nigerians to give support to the government of President Mohammadu Buhari and his vice, Professor Yemi Osinbajo.
Sule who made the appeal while speaking with State House Correspondents at a private meeting with the Vice President in his office described the administration “as dawn of new era”.
He however urged Nigerian to offer constructive criticisms to the government, expressing confidence in the regime’s effort to deliver on its campaign promises to the people.
He said “I call upon Nigerians to give them (President Muhammadu Buhari and Vice President Yemi Osinbajo), their support, honest and sincere support. Tell them if they do wrong or if they go wrong, support them if they do the right thing, but do it in a responsible and constructive manner.
“That we shall do for we have confidence in them. We don’t want them to fail and by the grace of God they will not fail.”
Observing two major problems of insecurity and bad image of the country abroad, Sule said that the integrity of two leaders would restore Nigeria’s lost glory.
“It is when you have good leaders that we will be able to bring to an end the insecurity we have in the country and the bad image we have abroad.
“Leaders with integrity are the ones that can bring about change and we have in these two men of integrity and I am confident that things should be what they should be”, he said
He noted that already the “international community is giving Nigeria good respect’”, saying that Buhari being a former soldier would engender the culture of discipline in Nigerians.
“And I think the president has established that reputation as a military leader, a reputation of instilling discipline into the society, raising the current tone of the society and fighting corruption”, he said.
