The Governor of Adamawa state, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, has declared a 24-hour curfew in the state with immediate effect.
Governor Fintiri said the curfew followed the dangerous dimension the activities of hoodlums had assumed across the state capital as they attack people with machetes and break into business premises to loot the property.
With the curfew now imposed, there will be no movement of people throughout the state, according to the government.
Mr. Fintiri said only those on essential duties with valid identification would be permitted to move around during the period of the curfew.
A statement signed by the press secretary to the Governor Humwashi Wonosikou appealed to citizens and residents of the state to comply with the directive, adding that any person found contravening the order would be arrested and made to face the wrath of the law.
The vandalism was reportedly began by people complaining about the severe living conditions in the state following the increase in pump price of fuel and the attendant consequences on prices of food and other goods and services.
