By Agency Report

There was mild drama in the Senate on Tuesday as lawmaker representing Ogun West Solomon Olamilekan accused Adams Oshiomhole of misleading Nigerians in an interview on television where he accused senators who served in the 9th senate of looting televisions, furniture and vandalizing their offices.

Adeola says he feels strongly about the comment by the former Governor of Edo state and requires an apology as well as explanation why he made such allegations on live television without substantial evidence

He added that it is impossible for any senator to move any item out of the National Assembly without approval from the management

He stated that the procedure is that all assets must be verified and signed for, and if any asset is missing their severance payment will not be made

Senator Adamu Aliero (Kebbi) who also served in the 9th Senate in his contribution says the statement by Adam Oshomole is defamatory and misleading and will not be condoned

Aliero added that the allegation is not true while also requesting for a public apology

Ali Ndume (Borno south) and chief whip of the senate in a point of order asked the senate to go on a closed-door session to resolve the matter, to avoid exposing dirty linens.

The intervention of Senator Ndume was turned down in a voice vote where the Nays had the majority

The Deputy President of the Senate, Barau Jibrin in his contribution
explained that all items in the offices of Senators depreciate to the tune of 25 percent every four years and the lawmakers are given the “right of offer” to purchase the items, and if accepted, the lawmaker will either pay outrightly or the funds will be removed from their severance gratuity.

Senator Oshiomhole was given the opportunity to respond to the matter
Where he explained that he defended the institution of the National Assembly throughout the interview and has utmost respect for the legislature

He added that, at no time in the course of the interview did he accuse the 9th Senate lawmakers of looting their offices, adding that many senators procured their basic equipment for their offices as the old ones were removed.

He however tendered apology for all those who feel aggrieved about his comment on Channels Television. (AIT)
