Less than 45 minutes after former Akwa Ibom State Governor, Godswill Akpabio emerged as the Senate President of the 10th National Assembly in a transparent election, the anointed candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for Speakership, Hon. Tajudeen Abbas defeated Idris Wase and Aminu Jaji in a voice vote on Tuesday to emerge new Speaker of the House of Representatives.
Abbas pulled 352 out of the total 359 votes cast while Jaji and Wase polled three votes each.
In the same way, Benjamin Okezie Kalu from Bende federal constituency of Abia State was unanimously elected as the Deputy Speaker of the 10th House of Representatives.
The election of the presiding officers of the Senate and House of Representatives was in tandem with the orchestrated plans of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC as all her anointed candidates scaled through the hurdles.
Abbas, who emerged Speaker, has been a member of the House since 2011, was almost immediately sworn in as the new Speaker of the House of Representatives, succeeding Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila who is now the Chief of Staff to President Bola Tinubu.
