By Babafemi Ojudu We have truly degenerated in Nigeria. Can you imagine a Shehu Shagari as minister in the First Republic behaving this way? Or a Richard Akinjide in the Second? Or Chief Bola Ige in the Third? Public life in Nigeria has lost its dignity. The solemnity once associated with leadership has been replaced…

Outgoing Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom said despite his disagreement with President Muhammadu Buhari over the poor handling of security crisis in his state, he bears no grudges against him.

Ortom who made this declaration in The Arise TV “Morning Show” on Wednesday, said as a Christian, he adheres to the teaching of the Lord’s prayer, “… forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespassed against us.”

The Governor also pledged support for the administration of the President elect, Asiwaju Ahmed Bola Tinubu as a member of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

His words:” If Tinubu is sworn-in, I will continue to pray and support him to succeed.”

The Governor who dismissed reports that he plans to defect to the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC in no distant time, urged those peddling such rumours to perish the idea as he remains a leader of the PDP.

“That’s not on my table. I’m in PDP, and I worked for the southern presidency which Tinubu and Peter Obi were part of. Defecting is not on my table for now.

“I remain the leader of PDP in Benue State but will continue to work for equity and justice in Nigeria,” he said

Ortom disclosed that his decision to work for the emergence of a southern presidential candidate was predicated on his strong belief in equity and justice.

Ortom disclosed that it was the same conviction that inspired him to support the Labour Party presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi in the just concluded general elections.

“We started as a group then. Some of us made our decision to support Tinubu, and I supported Obi because of my belief in equity fairness and justice.

“The election is come and gone. Let’s see how things turn out eventually. The three presidential candidates of the three main political parties are currently in Court protesting against the election results. But I support whoever emerges as President,” Ortom stated.
