After a nail-biting effort that anxious Nigerians followed diligently, Hilda Effiong Bassey, popularly known as Hilda Baci, on Monday, set a new record for the “World’s longest cooking marathon by an individual” after hitting 91 hours and 21 minutes on Monday.

The Record was previously held by an Indian chef, Lata Tondon after she completed the task in 87 hours, 45 minutes, and 00 secs in Rewa, India in 2019.

The now-celebrated Nigerian chef hosted two dignitaries during her historic feat, the Lagos State Governor, Sanwo-Olu Babajide, and Senator Godwill Akpabio, who were at the venue to show her support.

Prominent Nigerians have earlier hailed her courage including President-elect, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Vice President of Nigeria, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, Peoples Democratic Party Presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, Governor of Akwa-Ibom State, Udom Emmanuel, and Labour Party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi.

The restaurateur began the competition on Thursday after she turned on her cooker at 4pm and surpassed the current world record holder on Monday morning.

The chef had previously won the maiden edition of the Jollof Face-off Competition in 2021, pocketing a grand prize of $5000.
