One of the stars of early Nollywood movies, Obinna Nwafor, popularly known as Saint Obi is dead.
Obi, 57 died from some undisclosed illness. He has been out of public circulation for a while due to a protracted illness that had made him unable to undertake new projects after he quit acting to go into the management side of movie production.
A master craftsman, Obi has been known to play the leading role in some iconic movies including Candle Light, Sakobi, Goodbye Tomorrow, Heart of Gold, Festival of Fire, Executive Crime and Last Party.
Born in 1965, Saint Obi majored in theatre arts at the University of Jos. He came into the acting scene in 1996, after doing a commercial for Peugeot on NTA and has since starred in over 60 movies.
In 2001, Saint Obi produced his first movie titled Take Me to Maama where he attempted to improve on the quality of the movies around at the time.
He has won many accolades for his acting and was for a long time a fan favourite.
He was married in 2006 to Linda Amobi with whom he had three children but the marriage ended in 2022 after a messy divorce.
