The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has said it recorded one of the best results in the last 15 years in this year’s May/June 2017 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).
Head of National Office of the WAEC, Nigeria, Mr. Olu Adenipekun, who disclosed this in Lagos, yesterday, said 59.22 per cent of the over 1,559 million students who sat for the examination across the nation obtained five credits including English and Mathematics.
WAEC also said it recorded the highest examination malpractice with the results of 214, 952 candidates withheld.
He advised candidates to check details of their results on the council website: www:waecdirect.org using the result checker PIN and serial number on the flip side of candidates’ CIVAMPENS card issued to them by WAEC.
Adenipekun disclosed that 1,471,151 candidates or 94.36 per cent had their results fully processed and released, while 95,734 others have few subjects still being processed due to errors traceable to the candidates.
The WAEC boss explained that such errors are being corrected by the council to enable the affected candidates get their results fully processed and released, subsequently.
 Giving a further breakdown of the results, Adenipekun disclosed that of the number of candidates that sat for the 2017 WASSCE, 1,490,356 candidates, representing 95.59 per cent obtained credits and above in two subjects, 1,436,024 others, representing 92.44 per cent obtained credits and above in three subjects;1,357,193 candidates, (87.05 per cent) obtained credits and above in four subjects, 1,243,772 candidates (79.77 per cent) obtained credits and above in five subjects, while 1,084,214 (69.54 per cent) obtained credits and above in six subjects.
