US lawmakers escalate Christian genocide narrative, accuse Nigeria of downplaying targeted killings

By Obinna Uballa The Nigerian government’s push to counter the Christian-genocide narrative promoted by the Donald Trump administration appears to be gaining little traction, as United States lawmakers have forcefully rejected Abuja’s position on alleged targeted killings of Christians during a rare joint congressional briefing on 'escalating religious violence in Nigeria.' The session, convened on…

Trump Effect in Gen. Musa’s Ministerial Appointment

By Farooq Kperogi While I am delighted that President Bola Tinubu appears to be taking security more seriously than he previously did (signaled by the appointment of General Christopher Musa as the new Minister of Defence, and hopefully this isn’t just a change in personnel without a substantive change in the approach to stamping out…

It’s a long haul, by Hakeem Baba-Ahmed

By Hakeem Baba-Ahmed   A lot has happened since US President Donald Trump’s outburst against what he called our disgraced country. He had threatened to take steps to protect Nigeria’s Christian population which he said is a victim of genocide. For the past eight years, Sen. Ovie Omo-Agege has shown leadership and flair for the development of Delta State. He has his constituency projects cuts across the three Senatorial Districts in Delta State (Central, North, and South).

Some will want to argue that he took the star project, the Federal Polytechnic to his Orogun community. That is a blind argument and senseless propaganda! Today, the school is recruiting and people from across all the tribes in Nigeria sent in their application. The application was not restricted to Orogun indigenes or Urhobos from Delta State.

Out of the eight LGAs in his immediate constituency, there are some with two federal tertiary institutions whilst others have one or two state tertiary institutions. The only one in Ughelli North LGA was used to campaign negatively in the just concluded election by some misguided Urhobo people. One thing they must understand is that henceforth, public office holders will be judged by the Omo-Agege standard.

Fast forward to the just concluded elections in Delta State, the Governorship and State House of Assembly election was grossly rigged by the PDP in Delta State. The outcome was not what the majority of the people of Delta State wanted. As usual, their expectation was cut short by Okowa and the PDP rigging machinery.

I want to assure Deltans that all is now set in motion to set aside the pyrrhic victory of Okowa, Sheriff and the PDP in Delta State. The declaration of Sheriff will be set aside, the people’s mandate will be recovered in no distant time and Senator Ovie Omo-Agege will be sworn in as Governor of Delta State.
