Just two days to the election, Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu who is currently seeking term of office under the banner of the All Progressives Congress, APC, has presented ₦100million cheque to fire victims of Olodi Apapa Spare parts traders.

Presenting the cheque to the Igbo trades, Sanwo-Olu said that the amount of money was an expression of his sympathy to the fire victims.

The Governor who laid a foundation for a new market structure for the traders, assured that the project would be completed in no distant time.

But network pool monitored by The New Diplomat, described Sanwo-Olu ‘s ₦100million offer to the traders as “Greek Gift” targeted at the unsuspecting voters.

Excerpts:

Danny Boy:

It’s indeed a greek gift just to sway the voters. There’s nothing Nigeria politicians cannot do to win election.

Warri Man:

This is show of compassion is ill timed. Just two days to the election, and a Governor who is seeking a second term of office is demonstrating compassion for traders whose stalls were raze to the ground by inferno.
Your guess is as good as mine.

Ismaili Plumber:

Let’s call a spade a spade. This is a clear case of vote buying. Sanwo-Olu should tell that to the moon that the ₦100million gift to the Olodi Apapa Spare parts Fire Victims was meant to lighten their burden.

Tanko:

If INEC and other agencies are doing their job properly, the ₦100million vote buying fee would have been refunded since Sanwo-Olu has immunity as a sitting Governor. Better still, he would have been disqualified from the race.

It would however be recalled that traders who comprised mainly of Igbos suffered great lose when a fire outbreak occurred at the popular Olodi Apapa Spare parts market.

Properties running into million naira were reportedly lost in the inferno that took them unaware.
