Criticisms have continued to trail the declaration of the Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP) governorship candidate of Akwa Ibom, Umo Eno that he would introduce “happy hour” in the state if he is elected into office.
The Governorship candidate said that under the arrangement, two hours would be set aside everyday for every indigene in the state to relax with a bottle of drink of their choice pepper soup at a subsidised price by government.
Eno who disclosed that this would be done at designated hotels by the government, said that the Akwa Ibom people deserve the right to rest after working hard everyday.
But Dr Reuben Abati of the Arise TV, warned the people of Akwa Ibom that this is a pepper soup and jollof Rice Governor working hard to land the mantle of leadership in the state.
He described the concept of the PDP Governorship candidate of “happy hour” as an odd description of the “stomach infrastructure.”
Abati noted in despair that the Governorship candidate would have addressed the immediate Concerns of the people of Akwa Ibom rather than hammering on trivialities as “happy hour.”
His words:”a state with over 50% unemployment rate and the hunger rate was pegged at over 70%, it’s abysmal to introduce happy hour.”
An Akwa Ibomite, Akpan Udofia base in Lagos expressed fear that the state would suffer further retrogression if the PDP eventually wins this Saturday Governorship Election.
Gloria Ekite urged the PDP Governorship candidate to focus on how to tackle the swelling number of unemployed youths, provision of basic infrastructures and to reduce hunger in the land through practicable strategies.
Another Akwa Ibomite, Tony Ufot said the PDP Governorship candidate has already penciled down his hotel as one of those that would the government will patronise for the “happy hour” arrangement.
“We are in trouble not only in Akwa Ibom but in Nigeria as a nation if this is the calibre of politicians vying to occupy government house,” he said.
