  • Vows To Resist Presence Of Political Parties In Uploading Results Of Presidential Election

Amid outrage over the poor conduct of the just concluded presidential election that culminated to the call by stakeholders for the sack of the national Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Professor Mahmood Yakubu, the Commission has pledged to block all loopholes that almost marred the presidential election in the March 18 governorship election.

The INEC National Commissioner, Festus Okoye who made this declaration on Sunday at The Channels TV political programme, assured that BVAs that would create problems at the polling units will be dropped for the election.

Okoye who urged the political parties to speak to their respective Agents to create an atmosphere conducive enough for the voters, disclosed that the commission would not allow the use of the Temporary Voter Cards, TVCs despite recent Court ruling that stated otherwise.

The Commissioner posited that the Court’s ruling was restricted to the two persons who filled the case against the INEC.

He said that informed the decision of the commission to file an appeal against the judgement.

Okoye who also disclosed that INEC would commence configuration of the BVAs this week Tuesday in preparation for the Governorship election slated for Saturday, March 18, said the Commission would not allow any of the political parties to present while uploading the last election results to the Central Server.

He averred that the Electoral Act clearly defined the role of INEC as the sole regulator of the election and not the political parties to begin to regulate the activities of the Commission.

It would be recalled that the Labour Party, LP has earlier requested to be present while uploading results of the last presidential election.

The party which tends to checkmate any hanky panky in the uploading process, stated that INEC has lost its credibility.
