…As Nigerians Kick Over Tony Blair’s Visit And Western Power Play

By ‘Dotun Akintomide

Former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode, has claimed that Governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai, will become Vice-President “when President Muhammadu Buhari is declared dead.”

The New Diplomat gathered this much, from the controversial social commentator who wrote on his Twitter account Friday morning, in reaction to the visit of former British Prime Minister, Tony Blair, to El-Rufai on Thursday.

He wrote: “When Buhari is declared dead the plan is for Osinbajo to appoint Nasir El Rufai as his VP. Tony Blair has come to Kaduna to convey British approval of that plan. El Rufai is slotted to take over from Osinbajo in 2019 but God will shock them. When will the Brits leave us alone?

“When will they stop manipulating us and interfering in our affairs? The blood of the Christians and Shiite Muslims of S. Kaduna speaks against El Rufai and the Buhari admin. Their time is over and their power is broken. The Lord shocked Buhari. He will shock this lot too.”

Meanwhile, the former British Prime Minister paid a visit to Kaduna State Governor, El-Rufai at the State Government House, pledging to support the former FCT Minister’s administration.

He said: “The Tony Blair Foundation would assist Kaduna State in terms of technical assistance and other supports to enable it deliver democratic dividends to its people especially in the areas of investments, basic education, healthcare and agriculture.”

Blair also met with members of the state executive council at the governor’s office where he was briefed by the governor and members of his cabinet on the various successes recorded by their ministries as well as their challenges which they ask for his assistance.

He commended the relationship between Britain and Nigeria, saying that the state government and his Foundation will work together to transform the state’s public service sector for efficient service delivery and increase prosperity.

Blair added that, the meeting with the governor was an exciting opportunity to visit Nigeria and see how governance is being run.

According to him, “there was great goodwill and desire for the country to do well under the President Muhammadu Buhari administration, especially in the fight against corruption.”

Albeit, reactions have continued to trail Blair’s visit to El-Rufai in Kaduna, as some Nigerians interpreted on social media that, his visit suggests that the British government is endorsing El-Rufai, in spite of the several killings of Christians by herdsmen, as well as the extra judicial killings of Shiite Muslims in Kaduna State without making a single arrest of the perpetrators.

Linking it to the Acting President Osinbajo’s recent visit to London, some of the commentators like Fani-Kayode juxtaposed the high-level meeting purportedly believed to have taken place in the UK when Osinbajo visited, with the Thursday visit to Kaduna by Tony Blair who has a knack for making covert deal to mean that, a plan has been hatched to make El-Rufai the Vice-Pesident just in case President Buhari fails to survive his health predicament.

But, a top source told The New Diplomat that El-Rufai may not stop at that “as he’s been known to be nursing a presidential ambition, he’s a desperado who is ready to pursue his ambition to the limits in a bid to land the number one job in the country.”

“Backed by some highly connected power brokers in the country, El-Rufai’s real focus is to snatch the presidency come 2019,” warning that this could result “into a rape of democracy in Nigeria, orchestrated by the western powers who have unfettered interest in Nigeria and all that it got,” he said.
