Barely 24 hours the Atlantic Television Network and Wish 99.5FM stations located at Ozuoba, Port Harcourt, Rivers State were attacked by some suspected armed thugs, the Broadcasting Organisation of Nigeria, BON has deemed it expedient for the federal government to deploy military personnel to provide security for media outlets across the country.

The Executive Secretary of BON, Dr. Yemisi Bamgbose who made the call in a release on Tuesday, urged the National Security Adviser, General Babagana Moguno to deploy military officers to the different media houses to protect the stations from being targets for political thugs and miscreants ahead of the presidential election.

The organisation, also urged the police and the Department of State Security, DSS to go after the masterminds of the evil act in order to guard against future occurrence.

In the same vein, the organisation implored the Inspector General of Police, IGP Alkali Usman Baba to direct police formations across the country to speedily provide security for Radio and Television houses in every state in order to avert a repetition of the ugly incident.

Bamgbose who stated that the suspected thugs, wielding guns and other dangerous weapons, in their numbers, invaded the media house in a gestapo manner, and in their trail properties of great value were destroyed and carted away by the unknown miscreants.

The organisation, however, called media owners and practitioners not to compromise standards.
