Barely two weeks to Christmas, the federal government have opened the uncompleted 7.6km Lagos, Ibadan Expressway.

Government decision to open the road was hinged primarily on the exigencies to check the heavy traffic usually experienced during Christmas season.

A release by the federal road management authority (FEMA), disclosed that the contractor handling the project was ordered to stop work to allow unhindered vehicular movement of goods and passengers plying the axis during this year Christmas season.

The government assured that this singular effort would help to reduce the hardships usually experienced by road users as long man hours spent on the road would be drastically reduced.

The federal road safety commission (FRSC) has issued a warning to Drivers, particularly commercial Drivers against driving beyond stipulated speed limit, adding that those who flaunt the law would be prosecuted accordingly.

In the same vein, officers and men of the Nigerian police force assured road users plying the Lagos Ibadan Expressway during this yuietide of adequate security, stating that enough security measures have been put in place to check the menace of miscreants and other criminal elements usually domiciled on the road.

Few Drivers who spoke to The New Diplomat, expressed delight over the development but urged the government to expedite action towards the completion of the road.

A commercial bus Driver who gave his name as Gbenga recalled that the government have been working on the road for almost ten years ago, and wondered the exact of its completion.

Another Driver who expressed appreciation to the government over the gesture, said the joy Drivers plying the Lagos Ibadan Expressway would be come in full circle upon the completion of the road.

The Drivers assured that the completion of the road would automatically translate into reduction in transport fare to Ibadan and neighbouring states.

The federal government have however announced that the Lagos Ibadan Expressway road would be completed in the first quarter of next year.
