5 persons were confirmed to have died, with 3 injured in an early Saturday morning accident which occurred around Ojota Bus Stop in Lagos, the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) has confirmed to The New Diplomat.

According to the General Manager, LASEMA, Mr Adesina Tiamiyu, investigation carried out by the Emergency Response Team (ERT) at the scene of the mishap which occurred around 4:02 am, revealed that an articulated truck with registration number AKD 663 KF conveying 40ft container Laden with plywood fell on a Volkswagen commercial bus (Danfo) with registration number FST 944 XR which left passengers trapped inside the bus.

“The prompt intention by the LASEMA Response Unit led to the rescue of three victims and were taken to the Trauma Centre Toll Gate, while 5 dead bodies trapped in the bus were extricate by the LASEMA Team and were taken to Ikorodu General Hospital Mortuary,” LASEMA gave the incident account in a statement.

LASEMA further disclosed that the Agency’s ERT and LRU fire service was led by the General Manager, LASEMA, Mr. Adesina Tiamiyu. Other agencies on ground to rescue victims includes, Nigeria Police Force led by the Commissioner of Police Fatai Owoseni , Commander Rapid Response Squad (RRS) Mr. Tunji Disu, LASTMA, LASAMBUS and Lagos State Fire Service, (FRSC) and NSCDC.

The General Manager LASEMA however advised articulated truck drivers and owners to exercise caution and avoid over loading and also ensure that their vehicles are road worthy.
