The umbrella organization under which the entire Urhobo nation abides, the Urhobo Progress Union, UPU, has thrown its weight behind the candidacy of Chief Ede Dafinone for the Senatorial seat of Delta Central in the 2023 general election.

The position of the UPU was made known at Uvwiamuge, the headquarters of the body recently, when Dafinone, a Chieftain of the All-Progressives Congress (APC) led by the Director-General of the Dafinone Campaign Organization, Olorogun Adelabu Bodjor, paid a consultation visit to the UPU Executive to solicit for their prayers and support for his Senatorial ambition.

Speaking at the occasion, the President General of the Union, Olorogun Moses Taiga, noted that all past Presidents-General including him the incumbent were solidly behind Dafinone’s candidacy to represent Urhobo in the Senate, after Senator Ovie Omo-Agege.

According to Taiga, the road to the Red Chamber of the National Assembly will be open for the APC Senatorial candidate, adding that he possesses all that it takes to be there.

“All Urhobos have approved that you should go to the Senate, you should move forward, the road that your father passed through that’s what you will follow.

“All the past Presidents General including myself support you. It shall be well with you. Everywhere you go, the road is open for you. Your father has delivered a good child”, Olorogun Taiga said.

Earlier, while introducing his mission, Dafinone said he has embarked on a consultation visit to the executive of the umbrella body of the entire Urhobo nation, to seek their prayers and support for his Senatorial ambition.

He said: “I stand before you here today to ask for your prayers and support as I begin my campaign for the senate position to represent Delta Central and the Urhobo people.

“I make a promise to my people that I cannot do less than my father. I will strive to raise the Urhobo people to a higher level for the Urhobos to be recognised on the Nigeria stage. I will not let you down.”

Present among the UPU exco are the PG himself, Olorogun Moses Taiga, Chief Dr Capt.
