In a historic victory, Rishi Sunak has won the race to replace Liz Truss as Conservative Party leader and is set to become the next UK Prime Minister, the first person of colour to lead Britain.

In fact, further checks by The New Diplomat reveal at 42, Sunak will become the youngest British Prime Minister in modern history, dating back to as far as over 200 years ago (1812).

Sunak’s emergence follows the withdrawal of Sole challenger Penny Mordaunt from the race after failing to secure enough support.

The election comes after weeks of political and economic turmoil. Sunak, a former Chancellor under former PM Boris Johnson, will become the third British premier in two months.

As a Briton with Indian ancestry, Sunak, a practicing Hindu, will be the first person of colour to lead the country.

He was declared as the next leader of the Conservative Party by the head of the 1922 Committee of Conservative legislators, placing him on course to be the country’s next prime minister.

The committee sets the rules for selecting and changing the party’s leader.

Shortly, Sunak is expected to meet with Britain’s King Charles III for a nod to be officially pronounced as Prime Minister and form a new government in a centuries-old tradition.
