Real Madrid star, Karim Benzema has been named as the winner of the most prestigious individual award in football, Ballon d’Or.

Benzema was announced winner at the Theatre du Chatelet in Paris, France, Monday.

Many had tipped the Real Madrid star to win the prestigious award after firing his side to a memorable LaLiga and Champions League double, scoring a whopping 44 goals across all competitions.

With the win, Benzema became the first Frenchman to win the Ballon d’Or since Zinedine Zidane.

The award was presented by his former boss, former Real Madrid manager, Zinedine Zidane, at the Theatre du Chatelet in Paris, France.

Bayern Munich’s Sadio Mane came second behind Benzema.

Manchester City’s Kevin De Bruyne came third and Robert Lewandowski came fourth.
