Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta state has come under heavy fire over alleged negligence that has led to over 46 communities in both Ughelli North and Ughelli South Local Government Areas of the state being impacted heavily by flood disaster.
This is as the people of Ughelli South LGA have raised the alarm over what they called collapse of the several communities in the State, alleging that the Governor has failed to visit the local government or send representatives to examine the level of damage done by the flooding.
Checks by The New Diplomat indicate that several houses and properties have been submerged by water, leaving residents of the community to paddle boats to their respective destinations.
It was also gathered that the flood has displaced many families, with goods and properties worth several millions of Naira destroyed.
A resident of the area who spoke with the New Diplomat disclosed that communities like Ewu-Otor, Orere, Assah, Etefe, Olodiama, Omafuvwe, Edjekuo, Gbaregolo, Omosuomo (inland), Omosuomo (waterside), Okuama, Ogoda, Alagbabri, Ofrukama, Ososo-Urhie, Ekameta, Oyan, Arhavwarien, Okparebe, Olota, Okwagbe Inland and Okwagbe waterside in the Ughelli South LGA have been badly impacted by the flood.
The resident who pleaded anonymity said the state Government has allegedly neglected them, adding that no one has come to their aid.
The source also called on the state government to as a matter of urgency send interventions to the communities, saying many people are already moving elsewhere.
