The crisis rocking the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) shows no sign of abating yet as Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers state again lashed out at the National Chairman of the party, Iyorchia Ayu for creating an imbalance in the power structure of the party.

This time, Wike has vowed to fight the injustice in the party, saying the dominance of northerners in the party has come to an end.

The governor who had been at loggerheads with major stakeholders in PDP said the current formation of the party has favoured the North, hence the need for a change in order to accommodate the south.

Wike who spoke on Wednesday night while hosting the Cross Rivers PDP candidates and other stakeholders pointed out that the National Chairman, Presidential Candidate, Atiku Abubakar; and Director-General of the Presidential Campaign, Aminu Tambuwal are all from the northern part of the country.

According to him, the party needs to integrate more southerners into its leadership.

He also vowed that he won’t stop to advocate for internal democracy in the party until there is a big change.

The New Diplomat had reported that Wike alongside some other southern bigwigs in the party had demanded for the position of the National chairman to be zoned to the south. They argued that a southerner should be the National Chairman of the party because the Presidential candidate is from the North.

Wike and his allies had in turn withdrew from the Presidential Campaign Council of the party, saying they will only work for the presidential candidate unless Ayu resign from his position.

Meanwhile, during the meeting, Wike promised to support the Cross River State chapter of PDP.

He also commended them for remaining in PDP since their Governor, Ben Ayade dumped the party for the All Progressives Congress in 2021.
