Wolverhampton Wanderers have turned its sights on Ruben Amorim and have placed him at the top of their list to replace the recently sacked Bruno Lage.

The Suns report that Wolves want to land Sporting boss Ruben Amorim as the replacement for Lage.

It’s stated that Amorim will feature at the top of Wolves’ wish list in the coming days – even though Amorim will cost a huge £20m in compensation.

Amorim has been a sensation as a manager, even going back to him winning 10 of 13 games in charge of Braga in the 2019-20 season.

Amorim then took over Sporting and guided them to the league title in 2021.

Now boasting 85 wins and just 17 defeats in 118 games, Amorim is one of the most exciting young managers in Europe at the age of just 37.

Prising Amorim away from Sporting won’t be easy but this would be some coup for Wolves if they can somehow pull it off.

Amorim was a target for Chelsea before appointing Graham Potter with Sky Sports claiming that Todd Boehly had held talks with the Portuguese boss about a move to Stamford Bridge.

That move didn’t work out but Wolves may now offer Amorim the chance to manage in the Premier League – just at a rather different level of expectation.

It would be recalled that Wolves parted ways with Lage announcing his departure from Molineux on Sunday evening following Saturday’s 2-0 defeat away at West Ham United.

Lage was forced out of the club after 51 games in charge of Wolves, registering 19 wins, 10 draws and 22 defeats during his time at the club.

Just one win in eight Premier League games this season has been a big problem for Wolves
