As part of moves to ensure victory for the presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi, his supporters are set to launch a crowdfunding initiatives.

Obi’s supporters including Nigerians in the Diaspora are set to set up crowdfunding portal with a target to raise $150 million in the diaspora and N100 billion in Nigeria.

This was confirmed by a member of the committee set up to organise the crowdfunding campaign.

A source said the funding will be made in small amount, adding that the scheme was targeted at the supporters of Obi who are largely from the grassroots.

The member also disclosed that the funding initiative will help the Labour Party set up more structures across the country and as well boost the chances of Obi in the forthcoming election.

“They are organising themselves into small committees and groups to contribute small amounts in a major effort to help Obi’s Campaign establish structure and presence around the country. Interestingly while some of their parents are either supporters of PDP or APC, they are rooting for Peter Obi.

“With that amount of cash, he would be able to build structures for Labour Party across the country and become a formidable opponent in the 2023 election and a threat to other candidates,” the source was quoted to have said by This Day.

The New Diplomat reports that the initiative is coming as campaigns for the presidential election are set to officially kick off in September 28, 2022.
