Federal High Court in Abuja, on Monday, struck out a suit seeking to extradite the embattled Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Abba Kyari to the United States of America (USA).

The presiding judge, Justice Inyang Ekwo, in his judgment threw out the suit on the ground that the application was incompetent, lacked merit and was instituted in bad faith.

The New Diplomat had reported that the federal government, through the Office of the Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF), had filed the extradition suit, praying the court to grant an extradition request on Kyari. The government argued that the request was to allow the suspended DCP to face a criminal charge levelled against him by the U.S. government.

The U.S. authorities had applied to the Nigerian government for Mr Kyari’s extradition in relation to his alleged link with suspected international fraudster, Ramon Abbas, also known as Hushpuppi.

However, Justice Ekwo ruled that the current administration has no basis to file the extradition request having commenced trial in a case filed against the embattled Deputy Commissioner of Police by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).
