The presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu on Wednesday met with one of his long-time political foes in the country and former President Olusegun Obasanjo, behind closed-doors in Abeokuta, the Ogun State Capital.

Tinubu is meeting Obasanjo for the first time since 2015 when he accompanied President Muhammadu Buhari to Obasanjo’s residence to curry the latter’s favour and support, just weeks to the presidential poll later won by Buhari of the APC at the time.

As of the time of this reporting, details of the meeting were yet to be made known, but sources have hinted that it is not unconnected with Tinubu’s presidential bid in 2023.

Both men have had no-love-lost between them in the past, especially during the eight-year reign of former President Obasanjo between 1999 and 2007. During the period, Tinubu also served as two-term Governor of Lagos State under the Alliance for Democracy (AD) — an opposition party then. Obasanjo, until the 2015 election was a political behemoth in the Peoples Democratic Party, with both political leaders having their fair share of ruckus on sundry issues.

Tinubu, who flew in his chopper, arrived at the Penthouse of the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library, Oke- Mosan, Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital and was accompanied by the Speaker of the Federal House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, first interim Chairman of the APC, Chief Bisi Akande and the governor of Ogun State, Dapo Abiodun.

Others include former Governor Olusegun Osoba, Otunba Gbenga Daniel among other dignitaries.

The trip to Abeokuta comes a few days after President Buhari received Tinubu and his running mate Kassim Shettima at the State House in Abuja amid the Muslim-Muslim ticket controversies that have continued to hunt their ticket and the ruling APC.
