Tukur Mamu, the publisher of Kaduna-based Desert Herald and Media Consultant to controversial Islamic cleric, Sheikh Ahmad Gumi, made this confirmation on Tuesday.

Mukhtar Shuaibu, a victim who was shot while in the terrorists’ den was among the five hostages who regained freedom.

The identities of those released are: a medical doctor from Usman Dan Fodio University Teaching Hospital, Prof. Mustapha Imam, Akibu Lawal, Abubakar Rufai and Mukthar Shuaibu as well as Sidi Sharif.

On the release of the five hostages, Mamu said the terrorists released them on Tuesday and that the victims were in his office to thank him.

He, however failed to mention whether ransom was paid or not for the released victims.

The New Diplomat reports that a total of 33 passengers of the train attack have been released so far in six batches beginning with the Managing Director of the Bank of Agriculture, Hassan Alwan, who was released few days after the attack.
