Anambra School Owners Lament Multiple Taxes
The Anambra State Chapter of the National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools has disclosed that the State Government viewed them as ‘milk industry’ for giving them exorbitant taxes and levies while exonerating the public schools.
The body lamented the multiple taxes and illegal levies they receive from various agencies of government in the state.
This was made known on Thursday by the Chairman of the Association, Mrs Amaka Ezedebego, in Awka during the association’s maiden education convention.
Ezedebego who spoke on the theme, ‘Applying best practices in achieving educational goals’, called on the state governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, to urgently intervene and bail the private schools from the challenges of multiple taxation, illegal levies and other unwarranted payments.
According to Ezedebego, the actions of the regulatory agencies in the state were affecting quality education in the state.
“The challenges facing private schools in Anambra State, are overwhelming. The major challenge is the lack of effectiveness of regulatory bodies that should regulate our activities and provide support for schools in terms of accreditation and protection from several levies and taxes from the concern agencies,” she said.
