An 85-year-old Baroness, Caroline Anne Cox, a cross-Bench Member of the British House of Lords, has condemned the persecution of Christians in Nigeria.

Cox, who was a deputy speaker of the House of Lords as well as a minister in government made this known over the weekend while speaking during the Dunamis Glory Conference at Excel Centre London, an exhibition and international convention centre in the Custom House area of Newham, East London.

The Baroness-in-Waiting to Queen Elizabeth II, and the founder Chancellor of Bournemouth University said targeting and killing of Christians on unproven allegations continue to expand and the repression and intimidation of Christians in public continue to grow.

She lamented how many Christians are being killed, citing the killing in Owo, Ondo State.

She said: “As you sadly know, many Christians are being killed, just as it happened last week in Owo in Ondo State. The targeting and killing of Christians on unproven allegations continue to expand and the repression and intimidation of Christians in public continue to grow.

“You are a people of wonderful faith and courage, we love you, we stand with you.”

At least forty people were killed by the terrorists in the attack while many others sustained varying degrees of injuries on June 5.

The injured victims were said to be receiving treatment at Federal Medical Centre and the St. Louis Catholic Church both in Owo and some other private hospitals within the state.

The police said no one arrest has been made in connection with the attack but said detectives from the command have been on the trail of the suspected terrorists.

However, angry reactions have continued to greet the Owo massacre, as the Catholic Secretariat of Nigeria, CSN, the United Nations Secretary-General, Antonio Guterres; General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, RCCG, Pastor Enoch Adeboye; Primate, Church of Nigeria Anglican Communion, Reverend Henry Ndukuba, and the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, urged the Federal Government’s security agencies to spare no effort in bringing the perpetrators to justice.
