The crisis in the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) may have hit the rooftop as some members of the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) have rejected the endorsement of the President of the Senate, Ahmad Lawan, as the party’s consensus presidential candidate.

APC National Organising Secretary Suleiman Argungu, who spoke on behalf of the NWC members during a press conference on Monday said that Adamu is acting alone.

He stressed that the members of the NWC were not aware of the decision of the National chairman to endorse Lawan as the party’s consensus presidential candidate.

Argungu who was flanked by Isaac Kekemeke and Victor Giadom, national vice Chairman, South West and South-South, respectively, declared that they remain firm that power should shift to the South.

The New Diplomat had earlier reported that Adamu while addressing the NWC of the APC on Monday announced that Senate President Lawan has been chosen as the consensus candidate of the party ahead of its primary election scheduled for June 7.

Adamu claimed the decision to adopt Lawan as the consensus candidate was reached after consultation with President Muhammadu Buhari.

However, in a twist, Buhari while addressing Northern governors elected under the platform of the APC said he has not endorsed any of the aspirants seeking to be the presidential candidate of the APC.

The President who met with the Northern APC governors at the State House, Abuja, Monday afternoon, also said he is in agreement with the position of the APC northern governors that power should be shifted to the southern part of the country in 2023.
