Former Governor Bola Tinubu of Lagos State, Ekiti State Governor, Kayode Fayemi; Senator Ibikunle Amosun and Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo on Monday suspended their political activities in Abuja to visit Ondo State.
The politicians who are all presidential aspirants under the platform of the All Progressives Congress(APC) arrived in Owo, Ondo State at different intervals to commiserate with the victims of the church massacre which occurred on Sunday.
The New Diplomat had reported that some gunmen attacked the St Francis Catholic Church, Owa-luwa Street, Owo, the hometown of Governor Rotimi Akeredolu. Scores of worshippers were gruesomely murdered as several injured victims are still receiving care.
It was learnt the gunmen, who attacked the Catholic Church, arrived at the premises, which is less than 200 metres to the palace of the Olowo of Owo, around 12 noon when the Sunday mass was being rounded off.
Meanwhile, the Ondo State Government has directed that flags should be flown at half-mast in all public buildings, facilities and official residences for seven days, in honour of the victims of the attack on Sunday, at St Francis Catholic Church, Owo.
The state governor gave the directives in a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Richard Olatunde, on Monday in Akure.
”In honour of the victims of this unfortunate attack, I, hereby, direct that all flags be flown at half-mast for seven days, starting from Monday, to June 12.
”It is a collective loss to the people of our dear state.
”The attack on innocent worshipers at the St Francis Catholic Church, Owa-luwa Street, Owo, is a deliberate and calculated assault on the people of the state.
”Those who unleashed this unprovoked terror attack on our people have tested our collective resolves.
”We will not be deterred in responding appropriately to this dastardly act.” Akeredolu said in a statement.
