The Vice President of Nigeria, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo has declared that he is fine, hale and hearty, contrary to reports that he was involved in an auto-crash.
It was erroneously reported by a section of the media (not in The New Diplomat) and spread by some overzealous social media influencers that Osinbajo was involved in an auto crash along the airport road on Monday morning in Abuja.
However, Osinbajo’s spokesman, Mr Laolu Akande debunked the reports, saying his principal was not involved in any accident.
Akande clarified that instead, the vice president was on his way on a condolence visit to Ondo, when he stopped his convoy and came out of his car to rescue the victim of a car accident.
On Sunday morning, terrorists had opened fire on worshippers at the St Francis Catholic Church in Owo, Ondo, killing scores of innocent people, a dastardly act that has been widely reported in the international media, putting Nigeria in the negative spotlight for the umpteenth time.
The fake news earlier reported on Osinbajo comes just hours to the commencement of the All Progressives Congress primary which starts today in Abuja. The VP is one of the frontline aspirants that are likely to clinch the ruling party’s sole ticket for next year’s presidential poll.
Here’s what the VP’s media aide tweeted:
“On his way to the airport this morning, VP came across a road traffic accident, stopped to lend assistance, & ensured victim was taken to the hospital with VP’s convoy ambulance. He then proceeded on his trip and is now in Ondo State heading to site of yesterday’s attack in Owo.
“Photos taken at the scene of the accident which occurred less than 2 hours ago. VP’s medical and security teams quickly intervened removing the victim from the crushed car which somersaulted on the opposite side of the road and got stuck on a tree. Victim now moved to an hospital,” Akande said.
