Former Chief Justice of Anambra, Prof. Peter Umeadi, has clinched the 2023 presidential ticket of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA).
Umeadi emerged as the unanimous flag bearer of the party for the 2023 presidential election at its special convention held at the national secretariat in Abuja.
His candidacy was affirmed by 150 delegates at the convention.
In his acceptance speech, Umeadi anchored his campaign on what he termed — ‘triple banner of rule of law, separation of powers and due process.’
He declared that APGA is ready to take the country by storm in the forthcoming polls. He said that Nigerians deserve a better deal from what is happening now, adding that if voted into office as president he is going to focus on education, health, security and economy.
According to him, his first task, when elected into office in 2023 is to reconcile agrevieved Nigerians from across the length and breath of the country.
In his words, “Our triple banner should form the structure for a new Nigeria which an APGA government at the centre under my watch would bring about.
“Uppermost in my mind is how to reconcile Nigerians across the length and breadth of our dear country.
“In a new political culture, I undertake to galvanise the old, young, rich, poor, literate or not, from different religious persuasions and from all six geopolitical zones, to deliver a new Nigeria where justice would reign for all citizens equally, irrespective of tribe or status.
“Our next task as a political party is to secure votes at the polls from the majority of Nigerians. We would work hard to secure as many legislative seats as possible across the country. Nigerians should respect the ballots,“ he said.
Umeadi, is now set to contest against Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Peter Obi of the Labour Party (LP), the yet to be known candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), and host of others in the 2023 presidential election.
