A former Governor of Anambra State, Peter Obi, has clinched the official presidential ticket of the Labour Party(LP).

He was declared winner at the special convention of the Party which held in Asaba, Delta State, on Monday.

Earlier at the convention, Professor Pat Utomi, a frontline Nigerian economist and public policy analyst had announced his decision to step down for Obi.

Utomi, while making the announcement said Obi is a younger aspirant with the capacity to effect the needed change in the Nigerian system.

Similary, another aspirant, 45-year-old Joseph Faduri stepped down for the former governor of Anambra state.

It would be recalled that Obi had last week announced his decision to withdraw from the presidential primaries of the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) as well as quit the party. He later joined the Labour Party two days after.

With this latest development, he would now face the presidential candidates of the ruling APC, PDP and others in next year’s presidential elections.
