Serial presidential candidate since 1993 and Nigeria’s former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar has clinched the presidential ticket of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Atiku, who was the presidential candidate of the main opposition’s PDP in 2019, again recorded a landslide victory, polling a total of 371 votes to defeat his closest rival, Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers state who polled a total of 237 votes and former Senate President, Bukola Saraki who polled 70 votes.

A total of 767 delegates were accredited to vote  in the primary election.

He was declared winner and the official flagbearer of the PDP at the 2023 presidential election by the Chairman of the election Committee, Senator David Mark, after the conclusion of the primary election exercise which held at the Moshood Abiola stadium, Abuja.

The election was contested between 12 aspirants, which included Wike, Saraki Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi state, among others,  amid reports of heavy delegates’ inducement.

Leading to the primary election on Saturday, former governor of Anambra State, Peter Obi; former Managing Director and Chief Executive of FSB International Bank, Mohammed Hayatu-Deen and Governor Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto state withdrew from the presidential race.

Sam Ohuabunwa – 1 vote

Pius Anyim  – 14 votes

Udom Emmanuel – 38 votes.

Bala Mohammed- 20 votes

Bukola Saraki – 70 votes

Governor Nyesome Wike – 237 votes

Abubakar Atiku – 371 votes
